The Undergraduate Data Analytics Major at Ohio State is hosting ASA DataFest™ 2016 April 9 and 10. Sponsored in part by Translational Data Analytics @ Ohio State, the event is an opportunity for undergraduate students throughout the university to tackle a data challenge that is likely beyond the scope of what has been encountered in the classroom. The event first began at UCLA in 2011 and has grown to over a dozen schools.
Students will work in teams of up to five on a surprise data set. Past examples of projects include analyzing arrest data from the LAPD, examining advertising success for the car website Edmunds.com, and exploring dating data provided by eHarmony. This year’s data set provider will be revealed at the event kickoff on April 9.
Graduate students, faculty, and industry professionals who regularly analyze data are invited to participate in the event as mentors. Presentations and judging will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. There will be prizes in many categories, such as best visualization.
Registration is required.
