New project links datasets to improve food systems

Casey Hoy, InFACT Faculty Director, and Ayaz Hyder, assistant professor of environmental health sciences and affiliate of Ohio State's Translational Data Analytics Institute, are co-principal investigators on a new project funded by the National Science Foundation entitled “Developing an Informational Infrastructure for Building Smart Regional Foodsheds.” They join colleagues from UC Davis, Berkeley Lab and the cities of Columbus and Sacramento in research to build a general informatics framework for better understanding and optimizing food systems.

Join us on Dec 7 for "A Farm-to-Fork Farm Bill" webinar viewing and discussion

Join the InFACT team on Thursday, December 7 from 2-4pm in Smith Lab 3150 for a public viewing of a webinar hosted by the Union of Concerned Scientists, titled "A Farm-to-Fork Farm Bill." The webinar will focus on the importance of the 2018 Farm Bill and the impact the provisions in the Local FARMS Act could have in our community. A discussion on the information presented will follow. Snacks will be provided!

Snyder takes InFACT to UCLA's Resnick Program for Food Law & Policy

Brian Snyder, InFACT Executive Director, recently attended the annual meeting of the advisory board of the Resnick Program for Food Law & Policy at the UCLA School of Law in Los Angeles, a program he has been involved with for the past four years. The Resnick Program is a think tank at UCLA that seeks legal and policy solutions in support of food systems that yield improved health and sustainability outcomes for all. Report on the role of innovation in transforming food systems in emerging markets

The Global Knowledge Initiative, with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, has published a report examining how innovation can help improve food systems in emerging markets over the next 20 years. Engaging with 50 experts from around the world, the report team highlights new technologies, processes, policies, and business models that can revolutionize food systems in both the short- and long-term. Casey Hoy, InFACT Faculty Director, was one of the 50 experts consulted.
