The Ohio State University seeks qualified candidates for a 9 month, tenure-track faculty position. The position will concentrate on Research and Extension. The successful candidate will conduct engineering sensor technology and/or big data management, analysis, and modeling research in two or more of the following areas: animal well-being and health management, optimization of animal nutrition and production environments, sustainable pasture production systems, food safety and traceability, livestock feed sourcing, and animal waste management. Successful Candidates may teach two or more of the following courses: animal systems modeling, environmental control of confinement housing, data acquisition and instrumentation for biological systems, automation for animal production systems, and microclimatology for agriculture. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program supported by extramural funding. Additional responsibilities include: provide leadership to the profession through state and national professional society participation, and advise graduate and undergraduate students and be involved with co-curricular programs or student clubs and organizations. This position is partially funded by Translational Data Analytics, a focus area of Ohio State's Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant investment that leverages the university's expansive scholarly resources, creativity and shared commitment to make a global impact.
Minimum qualifications include an earned PhD in agricultural engineering, biological engineering or closely allied discipline; and registration as a Professional Engineer or demonstrated eligibility. The candidate must have formal training and experience in three or more of the following areas: data acquisition and signal processing skills; mathematical modeling and simulation languages; geographic information systems; statistical data analysis tools; cloud-based systems for transmitting and storing large, complex data sets; and data and information visualization. The preferred candidate is expected to have an animal sciences background demonstrated via holding academic degrees and/or completing significant coursework or experiences in animal sciences. It is essential that the candidate have excellent speaking and writing skills; ability and desire to work in interdisciplinary, interdepartmental research teams; and teaching. The candidate must establish and conduct a research program resulting in national impacts and high-quality publications. Industry experience is desirable. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams, experience in mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
