The Ohio State University seeks qualified candidates for a 9 month, tenure-track faculty position available in Columbus starting on or after August 16, 2018. The position will concentrate on Research (50%) and teaching (50%) in the broader area of Agricultural Remote Sensing for Sustainability Indicators. More
specifically, the successful candidate will conduct research in areas including:
- agricultural data analysis from air- or space-borne remotely sensed data;
- application of remotely sensed information in the study of climate change impacts on agriculture, agricultural process development, and sustainability analysis;
- big data management and analytics for remote sensing in agriculture, and related topics in support of sustainable agricultural production.
The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses related to agricultural remote sensing and modeling, sustainability indicators for agriculture, data analytics, and other topics relevant to resilient and sustainable agricultural production systems. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and may also be offered a joint appointment in Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering. Additional responsibilities include: secure extramural funding to support research and teaching programs, provide leadership to the profession through state and national professional society participation, advise graduate and undergraduate students, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation. This position is partially funded by Ohio State's Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant investment that leverages the university’s expansive scholarly resources, creativity and shared commitment to make a global impact.
Minimum qualifications include an earned PhD in agricultural, biological, civil or electrical engineering, or a closely allied engineering or science discipline. The candidate must have formal training or equivalent experience in the following areas: environmental remote sensing, environmental modeling and validation, large and complex data analysis, and cloud-based systems for transmitting and storing large and complex datasets. The preferred candidate should have experience with remotely sensed data applied to precision agriculture for enhancing agricultural sustainability. It is essential that the candidate has background and knowledge of U.S. agricultural system; excellent speaking and writing skills; ability and desire to work in interdisciplinary, interdepartmental research teams; and grant writing experience. The candidate must establish and conduct a research program resulting in national impacts and high-quality publications. Post-doctoral or industry experience is desirable. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams, experience in mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
