Healthy Soils and Healthy Humans: Soil Micronutrients Drive Health in Poor, Agricultural Countries Leah Bevis, an assistant professor in Ohio State’s Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics and an InFACT faculty affiliate, writes in a recent blog post on how micronutrient-deficient soils grow lower-nutrient food and drive micronutrient malnutrition in populations reliant on them for food.

Register now for the 2017 OSU Food Waste Collaborative Conference and Webinar

Titled "Food Waste Policy: Present and Future," the 2017 OSU Food Waste Collaborative Conference and Webinar will be held on Sept. 15 at the Nationwide 4-H Center at Ohio State. The event, which is open to the public, will explore current trends in food policy that both help and hinder our ability to reduce the amount of loss in the food system. InFACT is a sponsor of the 2017 event, which is organized by Brian Roe, leader of the Ohio State Food Waste Collaborative, and an executive committee member and faculty affiliate for InFACT.

InFACT on the road: 44th Congress of the Colombian Entomological Society Casey Hoy (left), Faculty Director of InFACT, Kellogg Endowed Chair in Agricultural Ecosystems Management, and professor of Entomology, represented InFACT as a “conferencia magistral,” or master lecturer, at the 44th Congress of the Colombian Entomological Society in Bogotá. His address to the group was titled “From pest to agroecosystem management, and resilient food security.”

Ohio Humanities' spotlight on agriculture


Rick Livingston, associate director of the Humanities Institute and executive committee member and faculty affiliate for InFACT, served as the guest editor for the Summer/Fall 2017 edition of Pathways, a publication of Ohio Humanities. The edition focuses on culture, agriculture, and the humanities and was supported by a Linkage and Leverage seed grant from InFACT. The publication opens with an essay from Livingston that explores some of the challenges that farmers encounter in the 21st century.
