The Department of Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University seeks applicants to fill a tenure-track, assistant/associate professor position. The position is part of a Ohio State’s Discovery Themes Initiative in Infectious Diseases, with emphasis on Emerging and Re-Emerging Diseases. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong, interdisciplinary, internationally recognized, and extramurally-funded research program focusing on emerging infectious diseases of plants. Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to, (1) the ecology, epidemiology and ecological genomics of emerging plant diseases, (2) the emergence and evolution of invasive traits (e.g. modeling virulence/antimicrobial resistance) in plant pathogens, (3) the role of climatic and/or phytobiome changes in disease emergence.
The incumbent is expected to develop projects that take advantage of the strong interdisciplinary/inter-college culture at Ohio State. Resources are available to facilitate collaborative and cutting edge research, including centralized university and college services for genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and a supercomputer core for bioinformatics/biocomputing. In addition, the Department of Plant Pathology also maintains core instrumentation for fluorescence microscopy, liquid chromatography- mass spectrometry, and qRT-PCR. Partnerships with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster are also encouraged.
PhD in plant pathology, plant or pathogen molecular biology, plant or pathogen genomics, or related fields; post-doctoral research experience in ecology or ecological genomics of emerging plant diseases; evidence of scholarly productivity, and interdisciplinary, inter-institutional and/or international collaborations; excellence in written and oral communication; and, for Associate Professor level, demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding from public and private sources.
