The Ohio State University seeks qualified candidates for a 9 month, tenure-track faculty position available in Columbus. The position will concentrate on research and instruction. The successful candidate will conduct engineering research in: development and deployment of embedded systems, including wireless communications and digital system design, to support cropping systems within agriculture; implementation of UAS for collection of field and crop information; data analytics for machinery logistics and management; and related topics in support of production agriculture. Successful candidates will teach courses related to embedded systems and their contribution to data analytics within agricultural systems. Other courses could include: instrumentation, wireless networks in agriculture, data structure, hardware architectures, instrumentation for biological systems, and Controller Area Networks (CAN) to cloud-based systems. Additional responsibilities include: secure extramural funding to support research and teaching programs, provide leadership to the profession through state and national professional society participation, and advise graduate and undergraduate students. Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in agricultural engineering, biological engineering or closely allied discipline; and registration as a Professional Engineer or demonstrated eligibility. The candidate must have formal training and experience in three or more of the following areas: digital signal processing theory and algorithms; structured and object-oriented software architectures; algorithm modeling and validation; embedded systems, wireless networks, and hardware architectures, and cloud-based systems for transmitting and storing large, complex data sets. The preferred candidate should have experience with embedded and wireless communications systems applied to precision agriculture. It is essential that the candidate have agricultural experience; excellent speaking and writing skills; ability and desire to work in interdisciplinary, interdepartmental Research teams; and teaching. The candidate must establish and conduct a research program resulting in national impacts and high-quality publications. Industry experience is desirable. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams, experience in mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
