Translational Data Analytics
An unprecedented series of strategic faculty hires in food is now underway at Ohio State. Learn about this ambitious discovery initiative, the 54 positions in data analytics and dozens more in foods for health here. The Department of Food Science is currently hiring five new faculty in these areas. We call to your attention this new tenure-track informatics position at rank of assistant professor. This advances the generation, analysis, interpretation and application of big data in food-related areas. These scholarly achievements will contribute to resolve major food related problems and inform decisions in the best interest of society.
This position is part of the Translational Data Analytics Collaborative. Spanning these grand challenges, the Collaborative provides the basis for delivering transformative solutions that harness the power of big data. The Collaborative establishes a singular presence in data analytics at Ohio State, incorporating innovative research, workforce development and high-impact partnerships.
Faculty members have access to an unrivaled array of shared resources to support informatics, basic and applied research. OSU is the most comprehensive land-grant institution in the world, with a continuum of food systems that are strategically integrated on one university campus. This position is tenured in the Department of Food Science and Technology, Columbus.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and in research in food related data science (such as development of databases, analysis and visualization tools applied to consumer health and behavior, food safety, life cycle assessment, food sustainability, food-related omics, and other critical food studies). A Ph.D. degree is required in fields related to Food Science, Data Analytics, Applied Statistics, Computational Biology (Bioinformatics), Engineering, or Microbiology. Program experience, university teaching experience, experience mentoring members of underrepresented groups and postdoctoral training is preferred.
The candidate will succeed in these areas:
- Collaborate with researchers sharing interest in food informatics.
- Advance the study of data analytics.
- Create a dynamic extramurally‐funded research program.
- Provide leadership to multi‐disciplinary teams of researchers.
- Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in food science and bioinformatics.
- Provide leadership to the profession.
- Provide service to the department, college, and university.
- Be successfully tenured in a Food Science and Technology academic home.
