The Department of Integrated Systems Engineering in the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, commencing autumn semester 2015. We seek a scholar with interests in visual analytics and sensemaking, human-computer interaction, data mining and the design of cognitive tools to support data analytics.
This position is partially funded by Ohio State's Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact. It is part of a university-wide initiative in Data Analytics, with ISE playing a leading role focusing on visual analytics and sensemaking. The position builds upon the department’s long history of international leadership in cognitive systems engineering, visualization and representation design, and the development of interactive cognitive tools that support data exploration, pattern detection and sense-making.
The successful applicant will be expected to excel at creating and participating in interdisciplinary research teams on problems in analytics with partners within OSU, while building upon the long history that the department has with successful collaborations that address data overload and distributed cognitive work in a number of different data-rich systems, including: aviation, cyber security, electric power, finance, military operations, intelligence analysis, and healthcare. This person will establish a strong research program, attract research funding from federal, state and industry sources, supervise graduate student research, and disseminate the results of such research through high quality peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, this faculty member will extend current course offerings in visual analytics, cognitive systems engineering and human systems integration at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, helping students learn to design interactive cognitive tools that support data exploration, pattern recognition, visual communication and sensemaking.
Interested candidates should electronically submit a complete curriculum vitae, a separate statement of current and future research interests, a statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for five references to the following email address: email@example.com.
