Loebs Professor and Chair of Health Service Management and Policy
College of Public Health

Thomas Wickizer came to The Ohio State University in 2009 as the first Stephen F. Loebs Professor, Division of Health Services Management and Policy, in the College of Public Health. Before joining the Ohio State faculty, Dr. Wickizer was a professor in the Department of Health Services and distinguished professor of public health sciences at the University of Washington. A widely respected expert in the areas of health services research and health policy, Dr. Wickizer specializes in health economic analysis, workers’ compensation medical care, health care improvement, and quality of care assessment. He has done extensive research in the areas of utilization management, substance abuse treatment outcomes, and effects of quality improvement initiatives. A study on the quality and costs of workers’ compensation programs that he directed with former colleagues at the University of Washington last year resulted in a new law in Washington State that reorganizes how occupational care is delivered. At Ohio State Dr. Wickizer serves as chair of the Division of Health Services Management and Policy. He holds M.A., M.P.H., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan.
